Gave 3 research agents a shared memory to cut cost. It saved nothing!
A governed-agent operator tried sharing a digest memory across three parallel research agents to avoid duplicate page fetches, and saved nothing. The lesson: the expensive part was the fetches themselves, and a shared cache only pays off when agents genuinely ask overlapping questions. A plain URL-keyed fetch cache, or designing overlap into the task split, works better than hoping for it.
